Synopsis

Joan Fontaine plays three literary characters: ‘Jane Eyre’ (by Charlotte Brontë), the second Mrs. de Winter in ‘Rebecca’ (by Daphne du Maurier) and the unnamed author of ‘Letter from a Stranger’ (by Stefan Zweig). All three of them live (and die) in peace, multiplied in a space from which it is immensily difficult to get out. When the only one who had managed to escape wants to go back inside, agony sets in in all parts of the house.
